Close Hospitals and
Put Doctors Out of Work

Five out of every six 60 year olds in the UK and USA have either cardiovascular disease, cancer, arthritis, osteoporosis, Alzheimers or diabetes. Often they don't know it. Because the symptoms haven't yet become obvious. But nevertheless the disease is there, growing insidiously inside. Once the symptoms become obvious - usually within the coming 10 years - it may be too late: a common symptom of heart disease is sudden death! Many cancers appear incurable too - by orthodox treatment.

The one out of every six 60-year olds that is free of these diseases, is the one who takes daily nutritional supplements! But not the cheap stuff found on many retail shelves; cutting edge bioavailable supplements are needed for the right level of protection.

You can read more on this subject in Dr Paul Clayton's book, "Health Defence." (It's available at Amazon.co.uk at a lower price than on Dr Clayton's own site).

The British National Health Service is so overloaded that people are waiting as long as two years for surgery. Rather than wait so long, some are going to India for surgery – at a third of the cost of going private in the UK. Yet Dr Clayton says the aim of his book is to, “close hospitals and put doctors out of work.”

Dr Clayton’s way of achieving this is to help us all become much healthier. Prevent diseases rather than treat them. That way far fewer need hospital beds or doctors' prescriptions.

‘Health Defence’ is based on sound scientific research - not mere opinion. Not just Clayton's own research: he refers to several of the thousands of nutritional research papers he read for the material in his book.

You may have heard the old saying, “Stop mopping the floor and turn the tap off.” When the running tap causes the overflow, it’s commonsense to turn the tap off. The sort of commonsense that Dr Clayton applies.

Hygiene, clean water supplies and vaccinations brought the major contagious and infectious diseases under control. That’s prevention! Something that seems to have been overlooked where today's degenerative diseases are concerned.

Instead, drugs are used to suppress symptoms while leaving the cause untouched - ticking away inside like an unexploded bomb. A bomb that's set to go off when you stop taking the drugs. All in the interests of maintaining pharmaceutical compies' profits. Profits that are regarded as much more important than your health.

Suppressing symptoms without addressing the cause, is mopping the floor without turning the tap off! But when you have to keep taking the pills to suppress your symptoms, you are a repeat customer. Much more profitable than producing drugs that cure. If your illness was cured you'd no longer need the drugs.

Teaching Doctors Nutrition

Dr Clayton, a medical scientist, is approved by the BMA to head a post-graduate course in nutrition to doctors at Oxford. Most doctors know little about this crucial subject: they only get one brief lecture on the subject out of 6 years training in medicine!

A few years ago, the government commissioned NACNE (National Advisory Council for Nutritional Education), to conduct a survey into our nutritional status. From that survey came the information that only five doctors in the UK were capable of making the links between nutrition and medicine. The remainder had insufficient knowledge of nutrition. Not their fault - the system's! A system heavily influenced by the drugs manufacturers. So doctors are prescribing drugs that mask the symptoms of diseases caused by malnutrition. Instead of treating the causes with nutritional supplements.

People are living a little longer today. But are they living better? When only 1 in 10,000 dies of old age? Most of the remaining 9,999 die of one of the killer degenerative diseases. Often cutting lives short by half their true potential. Once you get one of the diseases it’s usually a steady, drug burdened decline on the journey to meet the Grim Reaper... unnecessarily if you follow the advice that Dr Clayton details in his book.

Using drugs to treat the degenerative diseases of today is a large part of the problem. Because while heart disease, cancer and stroke are numbers 1, 2 and 3 biggest killers, the 4th biggest killer in the industrialised west is the side-effects of prescription drugs! Published by the Journal of the American Medical Association in 1998. So if the disease doesn’t get you, the treatment probably will.

20,000 Die Each Year in UK From Medical Drugs' Side Effects

The annual death toll from drugs’ side effects is over 100,000 a year in the USA. Around 20,000 a year in the UK. Figures that rarely appear in the media - for obvious reasons!

An ounce of prevention is worth many tons of cure. Prevention worked against the infectious diseases. And that’s what’s needed against the degenerative diseases. Not through vaccines. Nor drugs. But through eating the right balance of protective foods and taking the right nutritional supplements.

It’s about the nutritional supplements that many disagree. We evolved without them. Eating just food. So why should we need supplements now? Dr Clayton gives the answers in ‘Health Defence’. One is that we don’t eat enough! A statement that may raise eyebrows.

But the point is, we are still designed for the lifestyle of early man; the hunter-gatherer. Where hard physical effort was needed to find food to eat, before they could even start to prepare it. No supermarkets or corner shops then. No transport either. Just legs! Evolution is way too slow to compensate for the huge changes in our lifestyle. So if we ate what our ancestors did, today’s obesity epidemic would be a drop in the ocean in comparison.

Our forebears burned the calories off through their tough lifestyle. We don’t. But through eating more, they consumed more of the essential micronutrients like vitamins, minerals, anti-oxidants and enzymes. Whereas, according to Dr Clayton, our present crop of killer diseases are brought on though malnutrition.

That’s not the malnutrition of the starving. Theirs is malnutrition type A – shortage of all food. Ours is malnutrition type B – a shortfall of the essential micronutrients we need to stay healthy. We don’t get enough, so we suffer cancer, heart and other degenerative diseases.

In countries where the diet is healthier than ours, the incidence of cancer and heart disease is much lower. Seventh Day Adventists in the USA live on average 20 years longer than their fellow Americans. Despite living a similar lifestyle. Why? Because like the Japanese, they eat a lot of soya based foods. Soya contains natural compounds that protect against cancer.

Inhabitants of Mediterranean countries consume red wine, olive oil and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. They too live longer on average than those living in more northerly countries in Europe. Red wine contains flavonoids from grape skins which protect against heart disease, stroke and cancer.

Wine Drinkers Live Longer

Danish scientists found that those who drink 3 to 5 glasses of wine a day are 52% less likely to die of heart disease, cancer or stroke, than teetotallers, spirit or beer drinkers.

Even so, grape seeds contain much higher concentrations of similar flavonoids. Without affecting your driving ability! How many grape seeds have you nibbled recently? Pycnogenol a similar flavonoid is extracted from the bark of French maritime pine trees. Do you enjoy pine bark sandwiches? The only way you’ll get this protection is through supplements.

Many ‘protectors’ are destroyed by cooking and storage. But not all. Ask Popeye about spinach. He knew that its beta carotene content is only released when it's cooked.

The trouble is, the same spinach today only contains a fraction of the nutrients it contained when Popeye was courting his Olive. Poor Olive would have been ravaged repeatedly by the evil Bluto, before Popeye had eaten enough spinach to give him the strength that one canful used to provide. Thanks to modern chemical farming robbing the soil of its nutrients and not replacing them.

Oranges Without Vitamin C

When you mention Vitamin C most folk automatically think of oranges. Pick a ripe juicy orange rom a tree and it’s bursting with Vitamin C and flavonoids. Good healthy fruit! But oranges don’t grow in Northern Europe. So they’re picked from trees in other countries before they’re ripe. Before the full Vitamin C content has developed. Then they’re shipped here, kept in warehouses and finally land on supermarket shelves. By the time you buy them, most of that reduced Vitamin C content has dissipated.

Although irradiation of foodstuffs isn’t permitted in the UK, word on the net is that some supermarkets route their imports via Holland where irradiation is used. This destroys bacteria in the produce so it stays fresh longer on supermarket shelves. But it’s also claimed to destroy vitamins and enzymes. This could be why a shipment of oranges arriving in the UK were found to contain no Vitamin C.

This is why you need supplements. A health insurance that pays off in good health and long life. The World Health Organisation recommends that we eat at least 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day. Despite this, repeated surveys of nutritional status in the UK and the USA have found that most of us fall short of the recommended daily amounts (RDA) of those few micronutrients that have such recommendations.

In the USA the National Cancer Institute have been recommending the 5 portions a day for 10 years. Result? Failure! It hasn't reduced cancer incidence at all. So they have upped their recommendation to, eat 9 - 13 portions of fresh fruit and veg. As if the average American needs encouraging to eat more! There's no evidence that even this increase will pay off. But there's a mountain of evidence proving that the right nutritional supplements do pay off.

RDAs Much Too Low

Many medical scientists including Dr Clayton say the RDAs, (Recommended Daily Amounts), are inadequate. Dr Matthias Rath, a German doctor and research scientist, says those who set such low RDAs should be locked up in jail and the key thrown away. "They cause the deaths of millions," he says.

Even so, repeated surveys show that many of us aren’t even getting the low recommended levels. So leaving ourselves wide open for today’s killer diseases. It’s like sending British soldiers into Iraq armed only with pocket knives.

In many respects the UK’s National Health Service encourages this attitude. When we take ill, we pay modest prescription charges on drugs. But we don’t have to pay the enormous costs of patented drugs as US citizens do. In the USA the cost of top quality nutritional supplements is only a fraction of what you’d have to pay for drugs.

So the UK’s NHS creaks and groans under the strain of preventable illnesses, while the majority sit back, do nothing and wait with crossed fingers, for those diseases to strike. (Crossed fingers are no protection against today's killer diseases)! Then they join the long queues waiting for treatment and complain about the delay.  Many dying as a result - not just through the delay, but because the drug treatments are relatively ineffective against today's killer diseases. It’s all so unnecessary.

The medical profession focuses on patching you up when you're ill. With today's killer diseases that's often too late. They take responsibility for your illness, but you need to take personal responsibility for your health and that of your loved ones. Health Defence shows you how - in simple to understand language and with lots of illustrations. For your own health's sake, and that of your children, you should check it out now.

Health Defence book Dr Clayton's aim of closing hospitals and putting doctors out of work is achievable. But only for those who take action on his teaching. Then you and your family have much better prospects of living longer, healthier, happier lives. Turn off those running taps so you don't need to mop the floor.

Dr Clayton’s book ‘Health Defence’ should be on the reading list of everyone who would rather die eventually of old age, than have their life cut short by disease.
